2. Data We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal data:

2.1 Data You Provide Directly

  • Account data — name, email address, and password when you create an account.
  • Payment data — billing name, email, and phone number collected via Razorpay (our payment processor). We do not store card numbers, CVV, or UPI credentials — these are handled entirely by Razorpay.
  • Course activity — lessons you access, projects you submit, quiz responses, and progress milestones.
  • Communications — messages you send us via contact forms, support emails, or career applications.
  • Notification requests — email address when you sign up to be notified about an upcoming course.

2.2 Data Collected Automatically

  • Usage data — pages visited, time spent, features used, and clicks.
  • Device & browser data — IP address, browser type, operating system, and screen resolution.
  • Cookies & similar technologies — session cookies for authentication and preference cookies. See Section 8 for details.

2.3 Data from Third Parties

  • If you sign in using Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo as authorised by you through Google OAuth.
  • Payment confirmation data (order ID, payment ID) from Razorpay after a successful transaction.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use your personal data for the following purposes:

  • Providing services — creating and managing your account, processing enrolments, and delivering course content.
  • Payments — processing your purchase, issuing receipts, and preventing fraud.
  • Communication — sending transactional emails (order confirmations, password resets, course updates) and, with your consent, promotional messages about new courses or offers.
  • AI feedback — analysing your project submissions using AI to generate personalised learning feedback.
  • Platform improvement — understanding how learners interact with our platform to improve content and features.
  • Legal compliance — meeting our obligations under applicable Indian law, including tax and regulatory requirements.
  • Safety & security — detecting and preventing fraud, abuse, and security threats.

We process your data on the bases of: (a) contract performance (to deliver the service you purchased), (b) your consent (for marketing emails), and (c) legitimate interest (security, analytics).

4. Sharing Your Data

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers — Supabase (database & authentication), Bunny.net (video delivery), Razorpay (payments), Resend (transactional email), and Vercel (hosting). Each is bound by data processing agreements.
  • AI service providers — Anthropic (Claude API) for generating AI feedback on project submissions. Submissions are processed per Anthropic's data processing terms.
  • Legal requirements — if required by law, court order, or government authority in India.
  • Business transfer — in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, user data may be transferred. We will notify you in advance.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. If you request deletion, we will erase your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., financial records, which we keep for 7 years under the Companies Act, 2013).

6. Your Rights

Under the DPDP Act, 2023 and applicable Indian law, you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Erasure — request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal retention obligations.
  • Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent (e.g., marketing emails), you may withdraw at any time by clicking “Unsubscribe” in any email or contacting us.
  • Grievance redressal — raise a complaint with our Grievance Officer (details below).

To exercise any of these rights, email us at admin@altindia.co. We will respond within 30 days.

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including TLS/HTTPS encryption in transit, AES-256 encryption at rest (Supabase), role-based access control, and regular security reviews. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text.

In the event of a data breach that is likely to result in risk to your rights, we will notify you and the appropriate authority as required by law.

8. Cookies

We use the following types of cookies:

  • Essential cookies — required for authentication and session management. Cannot be disabled.
  • Preference cookies — remember your settings (e.g., playback speed).
  • Analytics cookies — help us understand platform usage (anonymised).

You can control cookies via your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies will prevent login functionality.

9. Children's Privacy

Our services are intended for individuals aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If we learn that a minor has created an account, we will delete it promptly.

10. International Data Transfers

Some of our service providers (e.g., Anthropic, Vercel) may process data outside India. Where data is transferred internationally, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place in accordance with applicable law.

11. Changes to This Policy
